The Agora

The name for this lively center of activity has existed since antiquity. In the city-states of ancient Greece, the agora was originally a place of assembly. Usually located in the center of the city, adjacent to administrative buildings and temples, it later served also as the main marketplace. This dual function meant the agora was the hub of political, religious, commercial and social activity in each town and city.
